County: 1.16M Gallons of Sewage Contaminates Herring Run
The leakage near the city line in the Anneslie and Idlewylde communities occurred on Oct. 12.

A sewer blockage caused more than one million gallons of overflow into Herring Run last week, Baltimore County officials said Wednesday.
The overflow in the 12-inch sewer main occurred on Oct. 12 and was discovered Tuesday when crews responded to a complaint about the smell. The 1.16 million gallons leaked into a tributary leading to Herring Run near the Anneslie and Idlewylde communities, officials said in a press release.
County sewer crews cleared the line Tuesday night, the release said.

The county's health department is monitoring water quality in the stream and has posted a sign advising residents to avoid the water. City officials will do the same downstream.
Herring Run passes through northwest Baltimore on its way to Essex and the Chesapeake Bay.
