Lutheran Students Join Poetry Competition

The school is sending one student to the county Poetry Out Loud competition.

freshman Joshua Davis will represent the school in the county-wide Poetry Out Loud competition, after winning a school-wide competition on Monday.

Eleven upper school students participated in the competion, where participants pick two poems from a book of 680 classic and contemporary works.

Baltimore Lutheran is one of nine Baltimore County high schools in the competition, sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.

Also competing were seniors Kara Bauer, Katie Raykovics, Margaret Paules and Kelly Wilson; juniors Olivia Belitsos and Brandi Preston; sophomores Claudia Perez and Andrew Sitter; and freshmen Carlos Green and Joshua Stroh. Belitsos came in third place, while Paules was runner up.

Davis goes on to the county competition, which will be held on Friday, Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Oregon Ridge Dinner Theater. The state finals are scheduled at the Baltimore Museum of Art on Saturday, March 3. The national finals will be held in Washington next May.
