Orioles Draft Calvert Hall Grad
Catcher Alex Murphy was the 189th overall selection in the draft.
The Baltimore Orioles drafted a local man in the sixth round of the first year player draft on Friday.
The Orioles selected Calvert Hall High School catcher Alex Murphy as the 189th selection overall, according to MLB.com.
Murphy, 18, is listed as 5 feet 11 inches and 210 pounds.

The right-handed hitting catcher has shown some serious pop in his bat.
For the week of March 27, when he was named The Baltimore Sun Player of the Week, he put up a ridiculous .909 batting average, a 1.72 slugging percentage and a .933 on-base percentage, according to Calvert Hall’s website.

He also won the home run derby at this year’s Hard 9 Classic, where he defeated 31 other players from as far away as Utah and California.
