Officers said they received a report of a shooting Sunday around 2:05 p.m. in the 1700 block of Reisterstown Road. That's the same block as the Ramada.
Authorities said they found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim's name has not yet been released publicly.
The Baltimore County Police Department thinks this was an isolated incident where the victim and the shooter knew each other.
"I am tired of individuals coming into Baltimore County and making money on the backs of our residents," Randallstown NAACP President Ryan Coleman said in a Monday press release. "I am tired of them making money and unleashing crime and mayhem on the community. The Ramada Pikesville is a crime magnet, and we can no longer accept this."
Coleman alleged that several other violent and sexual crimes have happened at the hotel since 2014. He urged the hotel to:
- Install additional lighting
- Place cameras with direct access to the Baltimore County Police Department
- Employ off-duty police and security
- Renovate the hotel, which will increase rates and attract law-abiding hotel guests
- Make the hotel a smoke-free environment
- Offer additional training for staff to spot criminal activity
- Clean rooms on a daily basis
- Ban guests that break hotel policies or Maryland criminal statutes.
"We hope that the hotel will work with us to uphold the high quality of life in Baltimore County," Coleman said. "However, we will also be exploring all available options including any legal remedies to disrupt this crime magnet."
Wyndham, Ramada's parent company, has not replied to Patch's request for comment. We will update this story if Wyndham responds.
Detectives are still investigating this homicide.
