Tornado Warning Issued For Baltimore County

A thunderstorm prompted a tornado warning in Baltimore County on Monday afternoon from the National Weather Service.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning due to a storm in the area between Mays Chapel and Pikesville that was moving northeast, officials said.

At 4:25 p.m., radar detected the storm with possible rotation, and authorities said it was headed northeast at 25 mph.

The storm will be near Cockeysville, Timonium and Lutherville around 4:35 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. People in these areas should go inside now.

Flying debris will be dangerous, and may damage roofs, siding and windows. Tree damage is likely, officials said.

"Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows," the National Weather Service said. "If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris."

These areas may also be impacted: Brooklandville, Lutherville, Hunt Valley, Phoenix, Riderwood and Stevenson.

The tornado warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m.
