Towson, Delaware Athletes Host Special Olympics Fundraiser

The annual Pigskin Pass is running from Newark, DE to Towson this year.

For a sixth year, student-athletes from and the University of Delaware are using the schools' rivalry for a good cause.

The sixth annual Pigskin Pass relay starts Saturday as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics organizations in Maryland and Delaware.

Every year, athletes from both schools team up to take the game ball the 58 miles between Newark, DE and Towson. At 7 a.m. Saturday, Delaware's runners will lace up and roll out en route to the halfway point in Aberdeen, where Aberdeen Mayor Michael Bennett will officiate the handoff between Delaware mascot YoUDee and Towson's Doc the Tiger.

The schools compete to raise the most money for their respective Special Olympics groups. You can donate at PigskinPass.com. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Delaware leads Towson $7,537 to $4,312. Delaware has won each year since 2007.
