Towson High, Anneslie Earn Historic Trust Grants

The two $500 awards will help add or renovate signage.

Two Towson-area projects are set to receive grants from the Baltimore County Historical Trust.

At its annual meeting on June 19, the trust will award $500 to redo the sign on Aigburth Road outside , and $500 to the Anneslie Community Association to create new markers recognizing the neighborhood as a historic place, County Councilman David Marks said in an email.

In a grant application, Towson High parents envisioned a stone and wood sign to replace the current marquee sign, which the PTA purchased years ago.

"It's been a good soldier but it just needs to be replaced and in the process we'd like to have a sign that is more reflective of the historic nature of the school," said Gale Santina, who chairs the capital campaign for the school's sports boosters.

Towson High School is on the county landmarks list. Anneslie was on the National Register of Historic Places.

"During tough economic times, groups like the Baltimore County Historical Trust help improve our schools and communities through their grant programs," Marks, a former vice president of the group, said in the email. "I am very happy three organizations in the Fifth District will receive grant funding to promote their local heritage."
