Vaulted wooden ceilings, historic photos and a marble-top bar await patrons at the under-construction Towson Tavern, which could open as soon as next month.
Brian Recher, co-owner of and the Rec Room, wouldn't commit to a specific opening date but he said the design will be classic old-school. There will be a dark wood bar and a stone exterior. Old and recent photographs of Towson will line the walls. New wood floors will add "a little bit of pizazz," Recher said.
The pub still a work in progress. Recher originally said the tavern would be open in September or October but the work faced some delays in woodworking.

The original Towson Tavern opened in 1768, mere footsteps from Recher's new restaurant.
When the tavern opens, it will serve mostly light fare and a happy hour menu. Shortly after the pub opens, Recher will shut down the Rec Room kitchen for an overhaul. Recher has hired an executive chef, Daniel Henry, formerly of the Capital Grille in Baltimore, and the pair have begun work on the menu.
