Towson U. to Face Lehigh in Playoff Chase

The football team may have completed their unlikely regular season, but there's still ground left for the Tigers to cover.

On Sunday morning, the NCAA announced Towson will face Lehigh on Dec. 3 at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Both teams recieved first-round byes. The Towerlight has video of the announcement on ESPNU. Players, students and fans gathered on campus to watch the selection show.

The winner of the game could face North Dakota State, James Madison or Eastern Kentucky. Check out the full bracket here.

The Tigers (9-2, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association) beat Rhode Island (3-8, 2-6) on Saturday, 28-17, while Maine lost to New Hampshire, leaving the Tigers in sole possession of the program's first CAA title.

But the regular season finale against unranked Rhode Island was no cakewalk, TowsonTigers.com reports. The Tigers were out-gained 116-19 in the first quarter, and fell behind 10-0. But three straight touchdowns helped pull them back ahead. Though the Rams largely shut down Towson's ground game, freshman tailback Terrance West rushed for two touchdowns and receiver Tom Ryan hauled in two touchdown receptions.

Lehigh (10-1, 5-0 Patriot League) will be facing Towson—a former Patriot League member—for the first time since winning a 35-3 rout in 2003. Towson has only won once in 11 meetings with the Mountain Hawks.

Game time has not yet been announced for the Lehigh match, but tickets are available through Ticketmaster, and the game will be streamed on ESPN3.
