Beginning January 1, 2022, the Amazon Career Choice program expanded in the U.S. to
pay full college tuition for hourly employees at hundreds of education partners across
the country, including Towson University.
TU will be the host for employees at the BWI2 and Sparrows Point Fulfillment centers,
which are host to over 6,000 employees. Those employees participating in the program
will receive training and the tools needed to purse high-demand careers.
“We are very excited to partner with Amazon to provide our high-quality educational
programs to their employees,” says Towson University Provost, Melanie Perreault. “This
program is consistent with TU’s mission as an anchor institution committed to offering
transformational education for members of the greater Baltimore area.”
Towson University was hand-picked by Amazon as one of the approved network partners
after a rigorous selection process. As a partner, TU will offer high-quality, high-demand
programs and a commitment to sustained and improved outcomes through innovative services.
As part of the University Strategic Plan, TU serves communities as an anchor institution, with socially-minded partnerships
and entrepreneurial efforts advancing the greater Baltimore region and Maryland.
TU acts as a community leader and partner extending the talents of students, faculty
and staff beyond the campus boundaries to create opportunities for leadership, entrepreneurship,
civic engagement, and experiential learning.
Some of the Amazon partnership programs that will be offered include computer and information sciences, criminal justice, education and health sciences.
Since the program started in 2012, more than 50,000 Amazon employees around the world
have participated in Career Choice and received training for high-demand occupations,
including aircraft mechanics, computer-aided designers, commercial truck drivers,
medical assistants, nurses and more.
Currently, Towson University has 14 students enrolled that are taking advantage of
the Career Choice Program.
Depending on program availability, Amazon employees would be able to take classes
in-person, online or through a hybrid system. Amazon has also built 110 onsite classrooms
in their fulfillment centers, which makes it easier for employees to participate in
the program.
Amazon employees who are interested in applying for the Amazon Career Choice program,
must register with both Amazon and with Towson University. To learn more about the
program, and how to sign up, check out the Amazon Career Choice website.
