Towson Y Opens New Day Care
The Journeys center was built on the site of the former Jemicy School.
This week marked the opening of the new day care center.
The Y Journeys Early Childhood Development Center officially opened Monday on the site of the former Jemicy School on the corner of Bosley and Chesapeake avenues. It includes six classrooms and can serve up to 80 students ages 2 to 5.
“This beautifully designed center is a fitting environment for the families and children we serve in the Greater Towson community," John Hoey, president and CEO of the Y of Central Maryland, said in a statement. "It provides the proper setting and resources needed for young children to learn in a supportive environment, one that is fully focused on preparing them to succeed in school."

The day care facilities were once housed on the Y's campus around the corner, but the move makes way for a planned new building there, pending funding issues. In 2012, the Y of Central Maryland will move its headquarters, now located in downtown Baltimore, next door to the day care facility.
