Update: Cooling Centers Re-Opened in Prince George's County

Update, June 21, 11 a.m.: The county re-opened its cooling centers today. Information about the centers locations are below.

Original Post, June 20, 3 p.m.: Senior citizens and other residents in need of a comfortable place to spend the day can walk or drive to one of the many cooling centers opened by Prince George's County officials Wednesday.

“Today is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year so far and I am encouraging all residents to be limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated,” Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III said. “In addition to the cooling centers that have been identified, we have 18 branches of our library system that will be open as well. I am also reminding everyone to check on neighbors, especially the elderly, and pay attention to pets to ensure that they don’t fall victim to the heat.”

Cooling centers are open for senior citizens at the following locations:

New Carrollton Nutrition Center

• 6016 Princess Garden Parkway, Lanham, MD
• Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Camp Springs Senior Activity Center

• 6420 Allentown Road, Camp Springs, MD
• Open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cooling centers open for the general public at the following locations from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.: 

1. Rollingcrest-Chillum Community Center
2. Hillcrest Heights Community Center
3. Oakcrest  Community Center
4. Fairland Sports and Aquatics Center
5. Palmer Park Community Center
