3 House Fires Cause $345K Damage In Carroll County

Three separate house fires over the weekend in Carroll County caused a total of $345,000 damage. Two were on or near decks.

WESTMINSTER, MD β€” Three separate house fires over the Labor Day weekend in Carroll County caused a total of $345,000 damage, according to the Maryland state fire marshal's office.

Two of the fires were located on or near the decks of the homes.

No injuries were reported in any of the fires.

The most significant property damage occurred in a fire Friday night at 7208 John Pickett Road in Woodbine, according to the fire marshal's news release. Crews were called about 9:21 p.m. to the one-story house, where a fire began in the attic of the home.

Total damage was estimated at $300,000.

Officials said it is unknown if the home had smoke alarms; there were no sprinklers. The homeowner reported the fire, which was handled by the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department.

Another fire was reported at 12:46 p.m. on Aug. 31 at a one-story home in 5017 Grand Valley Road in Westminster.

The fire marshal said the fire started outside the house next to a wood deck, the cause is still under investigation. The homeowner reported the fire

Damage is estimated at $30,000.

The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

And the third fire was reported at 11:42 p.m. on Aug. 30 at 62 Fairground Ave. in Taneytown, where the state fire marshal said smoking materials caused a fire on the rear exterior deck of the house.

Damage to the split-level home was estimated at $15,000. The Taneytown Volunteer Fire Department handled the call from a neighbor and put out the fire.

The fire was contained to the exterior of the home, officials said.
