During Ms. Brennan's visit to the Carroll County Library Branch in Westminster, Maryland on Monday, July 21, 2025, she entertained about 125 well-wishers who were obviously
enthused about the Toledo, Ohio native's visit to small-town Westminster. In fact, one attendee named Lamar Parks, expressed to the author that he was somewhat surprised that she
even chose to visit central Maryland - away from downtown urban Baltimore. Parks said he made the trip from inner-city Baltimore to visit the author's personal public session in the
bedroom Carroll County community atmosphere.
When the writer noted that her book is currently No. 2 on the New York Times best-sellers list, she garnered immediate applause from her audience.
Kelley Keener from the Little Italy section of downtown Baltimore, joined her mother-in-law Patty Keener of Westminster and a close friend Jennifer Scott of Ellicott City, to witness the nationally renowned journalist.
All three ladies purchased books, at $29.99 a clip, while Kelley had Ms. Brennan autograph a copy for her daughter, Lucy,, who was unable to make the trip, but is clearly a major Caitlin
Clark fan.
Brennan told the audience that Caitlin Clark's story is an American tale that impacts all facets of American society. Unlike Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan - she says Clark's
appeal crosses all genders and is "electrifying entertainment," said the graduate of the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Since college graduation, Ms. Brennan has become a highly reputable sports columnist for USA Today, a commentator on ABC News, CNN, PBS NewsHour and NPR. She's also a best-
selling author, having written seven books prior to the Caitlin
Clark publication.
Ms. Brennan said she was inspired to write the Clark book, after witnessing the national appeal the youngster's hoop talents were having on so many people. during her college days at Iowa.
"I recall being fascinated in my kitchen in Feb. 2023 - watching Caitlin Clark, when Iowa played Indiana, drawing record crowds in the middle of winter in Midwest America."
Brennan also addressed the fact that Clark, now a professional baller with the Indiana Fever in the WNBA, has succeeded in a basketball league that boasts a 74-percent black player
personnel.
The writer said she enlisted the advice of renowned African-American sports psychologist Dr. Harry Edwards of the University of Southern California, for his take on how to address the racial factor that came to light - when Clark's star rose higher than more experienced and seasoned black women players in the league.
Clark's highly publicized relationship with nemesis Angel Reese of Baltimore, is also a topic that was addressed in Brennan's book, she said.
Reese and Clark are old competitors starting from when both played college ball two years ago at LSU and Iowa, respectively.
Their competitions have continued since both have become WNBA professionals.
Brennan patiently fielded questions from the audience, after completing her talk. She also sat and autographed her book and took photos with those who were obviously overly-enthused with her presence.
The popular book tour has entered locations from Toledo, Ohio to various parts of Indiana, to Washington, DC, Kansas City and Long Beach, California.
