Carroll County Public Schools advanced academics teacher Bethanie Leader was one of 120 teachers selected nationwide to participate in the Library of Congress’s National History Day professional development this spring.
CCPS advanced academics students in middle and high school are encouraged to participate in the National History Day Competition by completing a history day project for submission to Carroll County’s competition and possibly qualifying to compete at the state then national levels. Leader worked with students at Northwest Middle School and Mt. Airy Middle Schools to complete projects for National History Day. This professional development will help her support students as they create original research projects within a theme on topics that interest them.

Now in its third year, the webinar series features resources from the Library of Congress. The course also includes four live webinars with an expert historian. Teachers develop strategies to help their students think like historians and develop a solid historical argument. Upon completing the series, the teachers will have demonstrated they can use Library of Congress resources to map out a model historical argument. Participants earn professional development credits upon course completion.
