Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Maryland
Back In Person at Watkins Park to Celebrate Breast Cancer Survivors, Remembers Those Lost and Fight Back with the American Cancer Society

The 2020 Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Central Maryland was reimagined as a pink car parade for the health and safety of participants due to the pandemic. This year, the 11th Annual MSABC of Central Maryland is back in person. The walk is free, but donations are encouraged. Making Strides celebrate breast cancer survivors, remembers those lost, and fights back against breast cancer. To register or donate: www.makingstrideswalk.org/centralmd.
Making Strides has united communities, companies, and individuals across the country in the fight to end breast cancer for more than two decades nationally. It is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events (more than 200) in the US.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among US women and is the second leading cause of death among women after lung cancer. This year in the US, approximately 281,550 women will be diagnosed, and 43,600 women will die from the disease. In Maryland, approximately 5,470 women will be diagnosed, and 860 women will die of the disease this year.
Funds raised through the Making Strides movement allow the American Cancer Society to serve breast cancer patients and their families– even during a global pandemic.
- ACS-funded researchers are still in the lab seeking breakthrough treatments and running clinical trials. As of August 1, 2021, we funded 153 (out of 630) multi-year extramural breast cancer research grants, an investment of $71 million.
- We offer information and support through our 24/7 cancer helpline (1-800-227-2345) staffed by cancer information specialists with live chat and video chat options.
- Our simple mobile app offers newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to connect with trained breast cancer survivors for support during their journey – anywhere in the US.
- Advocates with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, work with national, state, and local governments for policy changes that help cancer patients and their families.
Making Strides is reuniting communities in person this fall, in accordance with CDC, state, and local health guidance and regulations. Important safety details will continue to be updated based on the evolving situation and will be communicated to registered participants prior to event day.
