SUV Driver Killed When Vehicle Strikes House, Telephone Pole

A Westminster man died when his SUV veered off the road, striking a fence, telephone pole and house over the weekend, state police said.

WESTMINSTER, MD β€” A Westminster man died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Carroll County, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

The victim β€” John Louis Petri Jr., 28 β€” was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services personnel.

Around 1:40 a.m., troopers were called to the area of Maryland Route 97 at Mayberry Road for a single-vehicle crash. Investigators said a Honda CRV was northbound on Maryland 97 when it left the road and overturned, striking a fence, a telephone pole and a house.

No other injuries were reported at the scene.

Authorities said they don't know why the vehicle veered off the road.
