18-Year-Old Fatally Shot On Train Platform At Wheaton Metro Station: Police

An 18-year-old man was shot inside the Wheaton Metro station Thursday evening after a confrontation on the escalator, according to police.

WHEATON, MD — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot inside the Wheaton Metro station Thursday evening after a confrontation on the escalator, according to police.

The victim, Tenneson Vaughn Leslie Jr. of Greenbelt, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. In a statement Friday morning, the Montgomery County Police Department said Leslie died at the hospital.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday, Montgomery County police were called to the Wheaton Metro station on Georgia Avenue for a shooting that had just occurred.

Detectives learned that Leslie was with a group of people inside the Wheaton station. Leslie and his friends "got into an altercation with a group of other males on the escalator," police said.

The dispute between the two groups escalated, and Leslie was shot on the train platform, according to police. The suspects then ran from the scene.

Police searched the woods north of Wheaton Metro station for suspects in the shooting and are reviewing surveillance images from the station, NBC4 reported. The Wheaton Metro station remained closed late Thursday.

Montgomery County police said Friday that they do not have anyone in custody for the shooting.
