Back to School Shopping: School Supplies List For Montgomery County

Here's a sample of what your child in Wheaton might need for the new school year.

By Patch Staff

As your children rummage through the back-to-school shopping aisle, searching for the most colorful folders and backpacks featuring their favorite superheroes, make sure they grab supplies required by Montgomery County Public Schools.

Though MCPS does not have a definitive list, several schools have compiled their own. Here is a list of recommended elementary school supplies for third graders, courtesy of Glenallan Elementary Schoool in Wheaton:

  • Backpack
  • Glue stick
  • Pencils (4 packs of 12)
  • Expo markers
  • Eraser
  • 1 two-pocket folder
  • Color pencils
  • 2 hard-cover composition notebooks
  • Ruler
  • Pocket Folder for STEM
  • Composition Journal for STEM
Not much seems to have changed from 10 years ago, except for the Expo markers and the supplies specifically designated for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning.

For a sample list for middle schoolers, check out this list for A. Mario Loiederman Middle School in Wheaton.
