Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Minivan In Wheaton: Police

UPDATE: Police say a pedestrian who was struck in Wheaton early Tuesday has died.

WHEATON, MD — A 53-year-old Montgomery County man was killed after getting hit by a minivan in Wheaton early Tuesday, authorities said.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Montgomery County police were called to the intersection of Georgia Avenue and University Boulevard West for the report of a pedestrian-involved collision.

A preliminary investigation by police determined that Ricardo Estuardo Jimenez, of Silver Spring, was trying to cross Georgia Avenue when he was hit by a 2001 Honda Odyssey that was traveling south on the same road and approaching University Boulevard West.

Jimenez was rushed to a local hospital where he later died, police said. The driver of the Honda was not injured in the collision.

The incident temporarily shut down southbound Georgia Avenue at University Boulevard. Westbound University Boulevard, at Georgia Avenue, and eastbound University Boulevard, at Grandview Avenue, were also closed.

(Original post) WHEATON, MD — A pedestrian was struck near University Boulevard West and Georgia Avenue early Tuesday, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Department spokesman Pete Piringer said the incident happened around 4 a.m.

The collision has shut down southbound Georgia Avenue (MD-97) at University Boulevard (MD-193). Westbound University Boulevard is closed at Georgia Avenue and eastbound University Boulevard is closed at Grandview Avenue, according to officials.

Motorists should expect significant delays.
