Small Business Saturday is only in its second year, tagging along after its older sibling, Black Friday. 

But the day, set aside by American Express for supporting small businesses in the extended post-Thanksgiving shopping spree, has caught the attention of Local First in Wheaton.

Local First runs a directory of small businesses in Wheaton and encourages shoppers to "buy local."

“When redevelopment comes, landlords will charge higher rent,” said Janet Yu, the Local First president, “If we can try to make small businesses stronger right now, they’ll know how to stay on their feet.”
