Westfield Wheaton World Cup Event To Feature Former DC United Goalie

Westfield Wheaton is celebrating the start of the 2022 men's World Cup with special guest Bill Hamid, the former goalkeeper for D.C. United.

WHEATON, MD — Westfield Wheaton is celebrating the start of the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar with a family-friendly event on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

The celebration will take place in The Streetery, the mall’s outdoor event and dining space situated between Macy’s and the food court on parking level 2.

Visitors will get to learn how to play soccer like a pro from special guest Bill Hamid, the former goalkeeper for D.C. United.

Attendees will be able to play soccer games, enjoy free hot cocoa and apple cider, face painting, giveaways and a live DJ.

“This event will be fun for the whole community with games, music, food and is a great opportunity to celebrate the vibrant cultures present in this year's World Cup tournament,” Stuart Amos, general manager of Westfield Wheaton, said in a statement.

The opening match of the World Cup will be played on Nov. 20. The World Cup final will be played on Dec. 18.

Westfield Wheaton is located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.
