VIDEO: Wheaton Mall Knife Attack: Police Seek Suspects

Police say two women got a cellphone screen fixed and ran away without paying, and one swung a knife at the employee who chased after them.

WHEATON, MD — Montgomery County police are asking the public's help in identifying two women they say assaulted a Westfield Wheaton Mall employee after not paying for a newly fixed cellphone. Police released surveillance footage on Wednesday.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2019, police were called to the mall on a report of the assault and theft.

Police say the two women went to the Smart Fix kiosk to have a cellphone screen repaired. When the employee finished the repair, one of the suspects asked for the phone to see if it worked. The pair then ran away without paying, police say.

The employee chased after them and confronted them. One of the suspects swung a knife at him and told him to back away, police say. The pair then ran out of the mall.
