Hurricane Erin Brings Dangerous Swimming, Surfing, Erosion To MA Coastline
While the storm will pass hundreds of miles out to sea, beachgoers are warned to be careful if they venture into the water this week.

MASSACHUSETTS — One of the final weekends of summer comes with some stark warnings for Massachusetts beachgoers as Hurricane Erin brings crashing waves and rip currents to the coastline for several days.
The National Weather Service said a High Surf Advisory remains in effect through at least Thursday with "dangerous swimming and surfing conditions" expected to continue through the first part of the weekend. Localized beach erosion is also possible.
While all beaches along the coast will be affected, the biggest impact will occur along the south-facing beaches of the South Coast, Cape Cod and the Islands, where 12 to 16 foot waves are possible.

Wind and wave conditions will also make it hazardous for small boats.
Gusty winds are expected on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket through early Friday afternoon as Hurricane Erin passes between 200 and 300 miles offshore. Winds could gust 45 to 50 mph at times, causing some damage and difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.
The rough seas will come despite a delightful succession of days on the shore.
After many areas got an inch or more of rain during a raw and chilly Wednesday, Thursday is set to be mostly sunny and cool with a high of 71 degrees.
Things will warm up into the weekend with sunny skies and a high of 78 degrees on Friday, 86 degrees on Saturday and 82 degrees on Sunday.
