MASSACHUSETTS — One day after a deadly mass shooting at a school in Tennessee, multiple schools in Massachusetts were disrupted by false shooting reports Tuesday, according to police and school officials.

Before noon Tuesday, high schools in Milford, Medway, Framingham, Mansfield and Melrose were all targeted by "swatting" calls — where a 911 caller reports a false emergency to send police to a specific location.

Medway police said a 911 call described the hoax shooter's clothing, and said they were seen entering the town's high school with a handgun.

"While these types of incidents have also occurred in other neighboring communities, we continue to follow our emergency response protocols to ensure the safety of our students and staff," Milford school officials said.

Schools in Rhode Island were targeted with swatting calls on Monday, according to authorities there.

The calls come after the nation's most recent mass shooting Monday. Six people, including three 9-year-olds, were shot and killed at The Covenant School in Nashville. Police identified the deceased shooter as Audrey Hale, 28, and said he had a detailed shooting plan and was armed with multiple guns.
