Acton-Boxborough Announces Fall Sports Tryout Information

Fee waiver, participation forms also available.

The feel of the crisp air you felt this morning is a good reminder the fall athletic season is just around the corner.

And to prepare for the upcoming season, Steve Desy, director of athletics, has released the preseason tryout and practice schedules for all Acton-Boxborough Regional High School sports teams for the month of August.

Student athletes are responsible for having this form completed by a Parent/Guardian and the Health Office PRIOR to trying out for any sport. Use of Private Vehicles for Athletic Transportation
Student athletes should ride the bus with the team to and from games. If there is a special circumstance preventing an athlete from taking the bus, he or she is only allowed to travel with his or her parent / guardian. This form must be completed prior to the event and given to your coach.PDF | WORD

If it becomes necessary for members of your team to use private vehicles for transportation to any events, please have their parents/guardians fill out on of the attached forms and return to you. Participation Requirements

All students must pass a physical examination within 13 months before participating in any sport. A sport's physical terminates 395 days subsequent to administering and must be renewed immediately to maintain eligibility. (M.I.A.A.)

The new activity fee schedule, effective for the 2013-2014 school year, shall be as follows:

    • $205 
basic fee per sport per athletic season (three athletic seasons per academic year)
• $200 additional fee per athletic season for each of the following sports: ice hockey, alpine ski, and gymnastics.


The total maximum family cap for Acton-Boxborough students participating in the above activities during the 2013-2014 school year shall be $820. Only the basic fee counts towards the family cap calculation.

Academic Eligibility Rule: Students must be taking and passing four major subjects to be eligible.

Bona Fide Team Rule: If students are participating in two athletic activities in the same season, the school's program must be a priority. Ex: If a student plays Field Hockey for the school team and swims for a private non-school team, the student cannot miss a school game or practice to go to a swim meet or practice instead. When there is no school activity, the student can do as he or she chooses.
