APD Officer Saves a Life

It's not often that restaurant workers want to see a guest spitting out their food, but this was one of those times. 

It happened last Friday evening, when Acton Police Officer Jesse Osterhoudt stopped by Junior's Pizza House to pick up dinner. 

While waiting for his order, Osterhoudt noticed that another restaurant patron appeared to be in distress. According to police, the officer then asked the man if he was choking. 

Here's what happened next, according to an email from Lt. Ray Grey: 

After receiving a positive response Officer Osterhoudt removed the 60-year-old Acton resident from the booth. Positioned himself behind the subject, then performed the Heimlich maneuver. On his second attempt the food dislodged and choking victim was able to breathe on his own. The restaurant staff and patrons were impressed by Officer Osterhoudt decisive and professional actions.
