On the Sunday of the Baptism of Christ, we remember a moment of holy beginning—when Jesus stepped into the waters of the Jordan and claimed his calling not through power or spectacle, but through humility, solidarity, and prayer. Drawing from Isaiah’s vision of a servant who brings justice gently and from Matthew’s account of Jesus’ baptism, this service invites us to listen for God’s voice still speaking love over the world: “You are my beloved.”The sermon, “The Water Remembers,”&nbsp;invites us to reflect on water as more than symbol. Water has carried God’s Spirit since the dawn of creation, shaping the earth, sustaining life, and holding memory. When Jesus entered the river, he joined himself to all who longed for healing, renewal, and wholeness. In those ancient waters, heaven opened—not only for him, but for all who turn their hearts toward God.This Sunday, we will remember our own baptisms of water and Spirit, and the truth they claim: we are beloved, anointed, and called. Each time we touch water—washing, wading, or standing in the rain—we are invited to remember who we are and whose we are, and to step again into God’s call to bring healing, justice, and love into a thirsty world.
