A crossover cabaret de chambre brings together the many passions, styles, instruments, and eras found among Eudaimonia's spirited members. We celebrate French women in love through music of Pauline Viardot, Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, & Julie Pinel and regale the nightingale’s beautiful persistence through cabaret numbers, medieval ballades, and Sandra Boynton’s hilarious “Chanson Profonde.” Wander with this uncommon ensemble into unending songs of darkness, delight, longing, and loss.

Our boundary-breaking excursion features soprano Pamela Murray, mezzo soprano Carrie Cheron, baroque flutist Na’ama Lion, period & jazz reeds player Diane Heffner, violinist Julia McKenzie, violist Anna Griffis, harpsichordist/accordionist Vivian Montgomery, and cellist Claire Garabedian.

This event's Social Action Partner is Shelter Music Boston whose presentation will highlight newly commissioned music on poems by writers experiencing housing insecurity. To connect with SMB’s mission, this concert program is designed to evoke the persistence, artistry, and vulnerability of women who have faced abuse and homelessness. The nightingale at its center represents both the uplift and the hardship of those who can’t bring themselves to cease their song in the face of danger and depletion.

Shelter Music Boston (Adrian Anatawan, Artistic Director) presents classical chamber music concerts, of the highest artistic standards, in homeless shelters and other sheltering environments. Their goal is to promote community, creative interaction, respect, and therapeutic benefit. They believe all people deserve access to the dignity, creativity, and passion of classical music whether or not they have a home. They envision a world in which classical music is embraced as an integral component of professionally delivered social services in sheltering environments. Shelter Music Boston is committed to employing professional musicians to bring music of the highest artistic quality to the sheltering environments they serve. For those experiencing housing insecurity, an interactive, respectful concert bringing the therapeutic power of classical music directly into the shelter can provide hope, a sense of self-worth, and renewed energy to address the challenges of homelessness. Just as others work to shelter and feed homeless citizens, Shelter Music Boston feeds their souls.
