Kid-Friendly Fun: SHED and Pomps Pond

Both Andover SHED and Pomps Pond have a variety of activities for kids that keep them active and cure any summertime boredom. Find out more about both of these local and kid-friendly places in this Patch Passport feature.
This dedicated group of staff members along with a first rate play facility makes is the definition of kid-friendly. During the school year, they offer a kindergarten program as well as before and after-school programs for students of all ages.

But during the summer Andover SHED runs three different programs
- Summer Adventures (entering 1st-5th grades)
- Junior Summer Adventures (4.9-entering kindergarten)
- Team Adventure (entering 6th-9th grade)
These programs are filled with structured events, field trips as well as "free choice" time. Activities range from arts and crafts to "zombie walks" in downtown Andover, where children put on zombie makeup and roam the streets with SHED staff.

Team Adventures offers team-building exercises for the older segment of kids, the oldest entering 9th grade. You can contact Andover SHED at 978-623-8462 or visit their website at www.shedinc.org.
Pomps offers a number of activities for kids during the summer time. From the beach to the athletic fields, kids find things to keep them active or just relax.
The pond area also provides trails and opportunities for boating, in addition to swimming. Specifically, beach-goers can rent canoes, kayaks and sailboats, and they play on baseball fields or roller hockey rinks.
From mid-June to late July, is open from noon to 7 p.m. The pond closes at 6 p.m. in August. Andover residents can pay $100 for a season pass or pay $5 each visit. Visit the website here.
