Arlington Select Board Names Sandy Pooler As New Town Manager
Pooler formerly worked as the Town's Deputy Town Manager/Finance Director and started his new position on June 18.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Arlington Select Board has named Sandy Pooler as the new Town Manager.
Pooler formerly worked as the Town’s Deputy Town Manager/Finance Director and started his new position on June 18.
“The Board is pleased Sandy has accepted the appointment,” Len Diggins, Arlington’s Select Board Chair, said in a statement. “In addition to bringing a wealth of financial and legal knowledge to the role, Sandy brings a deep well of institutional knowledge. I’m confident will be of great benefit to staff and the Arlington community.”

Pooler has worked for Arlington since 2016, serving first as Deputy Town Manager and later as Deputy Town Manager/Finance Director when the consolidated Finance Department was formed in 2018.
The Finance Department includes the Offices of the Assessors, Comptroller, Purchasing, and Treasurer and develops the Town Manager’s Budgets and Capital Plan requests, as well as his Long Range Plan forecasts.

“Arlington is a wonderful community and I am honored that I have been entrusted with these new responsibilities,” Pooler said in a statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working with residents and staff to ensure the delivery of the high-quality services Arlington residents expect and deserve.”
Prior to coming to Arlington, Pooler held many roles in municipal government including service as the Finance Director for the Town of Amherst and the Chief Budget Officer and Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Newton.
In addition, Pooler worked at the Massachusetts House of Representatives as Legal Counsel to multiple committees and has served as a legal clerk for his Honorable Albert Lee Stephens, Jr., a Federal District Court Judge.
Pooler holds a Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, a Juris Doctor from the University of California at Los Angeles School or Law, and a Master in Public Education from the Harvard Kennedy School.
