Fortunately they happened to flag down a passing ambulance containing two EMTs employed by the Arlington-based Armstrong Ambulance Service, who were able to safely guide the new mom through the ordeal, according to a statement from the company.
“Too often, first responders encounter people during accidents or traumatic events,” said EMT Eric Hackett, who has worked for Armstrong less than a year. “It was very exciting to be part of a new life entering the world, and I was glad to play a small role. To be fair, mom did most of the work.”

Armstrong says Hackett and EMT Trevor O’Shea cleared the baby’s airway, and cut and clamped the umbilical cord. Now, when the baby grows up, he’ll have a cool icebreaker story to tell at parties about how he was born in the backseat of his parents’ car.
The unidentified mother and son are currently recovering at Mt. Auburn Hospital.
