Meninos Read to Kids at Tadpole Playground

The mayor and his wife received a special honor as well as being able to read to children.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Tadpole Playground on Boston Common, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and his wife, Angela, read "Froggy Plays Soccer" to dozens of local children Thursday morning.

The Meninos also received an honor as Highland Street Foundation Executive Director Blake Jordan announced the naming of the six frog statues located around the playground and the Frog Pond. The two overlooking the Frog Pond will be named Tommy and Angela after the mayor and his wife.

"I take that as an honor," Menino said.

It was 10 years ago that the Highland Street Foundation worked with the city to build the playground.

Jordan said the Highland Street Foundation was kicking off their Tadpole 10 series of summer programs at the playground on Thursday mornings this summer. In addition, the foundation's Free Fun Fridays will also be starting Friday of this week.
