Man Charged with Shoplifting Over $1,000 in Good From Lord and Taylor

A Lord and Taylor’s employee flagged down an officers at 3:36 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13 to report a shoplifter.

The officer spoke with a Loss Prevention Employee, who stated that they were watching a suspect shoplift. The employee reportedly witnessed the suspect grab a bunch of coats and head for the dressing room. After witnessing the suspect cut the tag off of a coat, the employee went to call the police, while other employees watched the suspect.

The suspect was unsuccessful in removing the tag and abandoned the coat in the dressing area. The suspect had reportedly resumed their search for clothes to steal.

At this point, officers went to the dressing area, where the suspect was wearing an orange hat and an orange sweater with holes in them where the security tags had been cut off. Officers asked the suspect if he had any other items on him. The suspect said he had cufflinks, a belt buckle and a pair of sunglasses. Officers reportedly observed damage to a black coat and a blue sweatshirt.

Loss Prevention estimated that the total cost of damaged or concealed items was $1,014.

Mathew Goldstein of 117 53^rd Street, New York, NY, was arrested and charged with larceny, shoplifting over $200.
