Police Warn of Back Bay Scammer

Male allegedly posing as having USO affiliation to solicit money from people.

Boston Police issued an alert Wednesday evening about a scammer in Back Bay who claimed to be representing the USO and soliciting donations.

According to a post on BPDNews.com, officers on patrol in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Exeter Street were informed by citizens of a suspicious male "who was falsely representing himself as a member of the USO."

The male allegedly had "superimposed photos of himself and a false USO Identification Card" and had been "soliciting funds for personal use under the guise of donations to US troops."

Police said the suspect has been known to frequent the Back Bay area with a tin can covered with American flags.

"The suspect is know to police for having solicited under false pretenses in the past," police said.

Police are investigating facts and circumstances around this case. Anyone with information is asked to call District D-4 (South End) detectives at 617-343- 4683, anonymous information can be provided at CrimeStoppers at 1(800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
