B.A.A. 10K Street Closings This Morning

Plus info on top athletes and more.

The following is an edited press release from the Boston Athletic Association:

Today the Boston Athletic Association hosts the 2nd Annual B.A.A. 10K.

The start and finish of the race is located at the Boston Common on Charles Street, between Boylston and Beacon streets. The 10K begins at 8 a.m., followed by a series of Kids' Races at  9 a.m. and concluding an hour later. The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. near the start and finish line at the awards stage.

Streets and roadways that comprise and abut the 10K course will be closed to vehicular traffic this morning. Exact times of road closures and re-openings will be at the discretion of the Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police.

  • Charles Street between Boylston and Beacon streets will close before 7 a.m.
  • Arlington Street between Beacon and Boylston streets will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Commonwealth Ave. East and West between Arlington St. and Massachusetts Ave will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Berkley, Clarendon, Dartmouth, Exeter, Fairfield, Gloucester, and Hereford between Beacon and Commonwealth Ave Eastbound will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Commonwealth Avenue West between Kenmore Square and Babcock Street will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Beacon Street between Kenmore Square and Charlesgate West will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Bay State Road between Beacon and Granby streets will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Granby Street between Bay State Road and Commonwealth Avenue will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Charlesgate E and Charlesgate W between Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*

* abutting / adjacent streets will also be affected.

Top athletes running include:

  • Geoffrey Mutai, 2011 Boston Marathon and defending B.A.A. 10K champion.
  • Caroline Kilel, 2011 Boston Marathon and defending B.A.A. 10K champion.
  • Sam Chelanga, two-time NCAA Champion and current the leader in the 2012 B.A.A. Distance Medley.
  • Kim Smith, four-time NCAA Champion and 2012 London Olympian.
