Massachusetts Electors Unanimously Cast Their Votes for Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine

Eleven electors voted for the losing candidate on Monday afternoon.

Eleven Democratic electors from different regions of Massachusetts cast their votes for presidential and vice-presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine on Dec. 19.

According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump has won more than 270 Electoral College votes to formally become president-elect.

Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin facilitated the proceedings in the House chamber in an hour-long program.

An anti-Trump rally in front of the State House lasted for several hours, with 300 protesters out in the cold taking part in a nationally coordinated action.

Galvin earned his share of applause when mentioning Massachusetts' mark in history during the 1972 election, when it was the only state (excluding D.C.) not to vote for the constitutional winner of the election when electors voted for George McGovern.

The invocation was given by Imam Abdullah Farooq, Reverend Joseph Marchese, and Rabbi Barbara Penzner. The national anthem was performed by the Longmeadow Lyrics Singers.

Votes were certified and sent by registered mail to Vice President Joe Biden in his capacity of President of the Senate.
