Monday Essentials: Otis House Museum Lecture
See what's coming this week in the area.

Welcome to Monday Essentials, your guide for the week to come on Beacon Hill. Here's what you need to know for the week of Monday, Aug. 5:
"THE JAPAN IDEA"
Author William Hosley will be giving an "illustrated lecture" for his book "The Japan Idea: Art and Life in Victorian America" at the Otis House Museum at 141 Cambridge St. Tuesday night. The book deals with Commodore Matthew C. Perry, who was instrumental in opening the nation of Japan to the Western world. More info here.
BOSTON LANDMARKS ORCHESTRA
If it's Wednesday in the summertime, that means it is time for another Boston Landmarks Orchestra concert at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. See what's on tap for this week here.
UPCOMING BUS DIVERSION
Something to be aware of for the coming weekend: the MBTA Red Line will have a bus diversion in place of train travel for Saturday and Sunday between the Kendall/MIT stop and the Park Street stop while Longfellow Bridge work continues.
