New Poll Bodes Well for Recreational Marijuana Legalization

Meanwhile, opposition to raising the cap on charter schools appears to have grown.

A new poll on upcoming statewide ballot questions bodes well for the push to legalize recreational marijuana, but suggests growing opposition when it comes to raising the cap on charter schools in Massachusetts.

The October poll, conducted for WBUR by the independent MassINC. Polling Group, found the following support for each ballot initiative:

  • Question 1 (adding second slots parlor license): 34%
  • Question 2 (raising cap on charter schools): 41%
  • Question 3 (banning small cages): 66%
  • Question 4 (legalizing recreational marijuana): 55%

That last is significantly higher than a previous poll conducted in September. Meanwhile, support for Question 2 remains static, while opposition has deepened, from 48 percent in September to 52 percent in the latest poll.
