State Economic Development Secretary Applies for Cambridge City Job: Report
Jay Ash might be out, assuming the man who helped lure GE to Boston gets picked for Cambridge City Manager.

BOSTON, MA — The state department head credited with helping lure General Electric's world headquarters to Boston may soon take his talents elsewhere — although, not too far.
The Boston Globe reports Wednesday that Gov. Charlie Baker's housing and economic development secretary, Jay Ash, has applied to be Cambridge's next city manager. Ash told the paper he'd leave his current gig, if picked for the job.
Ash, a Democrat working under a Republican governor, told the paper that work travel can get taxing and that his strength—and, it seems, his heart—lies in municipal management. The Globe also points out that Ash would be up for a considerable salary bump, potentially moving from $156,000 on the state's payroll to the current $300,000 Cambridge city managers annually make.
