State Officials' Private Party on the Esplanade Yields Suspension: Report

According to the report, they were suspended without pay and ordered to reimburse the state for upwards of $800.

BOSTON, MA — An investigative report out this week chronicles two state officials' suspension without pay for using state resources to host a pre-Independence Day shindig that included a particularly nice venue: the Esplanade.

According to WCVB investigative reporter Mike Beaudet, the private, July 3 party was hosted by Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Leo Roy and Deputy Commissioner Matthew Sisk, who shuttled guests to the VIP Boston Pops dress rehearsal pre-party via DCR staff-driven golf carts.

Beaudet reports the two have "reimbursed the state more than $800 to cover the cost of the golf carts and the DCR staff driving them," in addition to pay for state employees who planned the party and "spent an hour printing the invitations using state office supplies."
