State Unemployment Rate Dips to 4.1 Percent for July
Massachusetts gained 7,300 jobs last month, according to preliminary estimates from the state.
Massachusetts' unemployment rate dipped down .1 percent in July, and the state added 7,300 jobs, according to initial estimates from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted, statewide unemployment rate went from 4.2 percent in June to 4.1 percent in July; that's compared to 4.8 percent in July 2015. It's several ticks lower than the national unemployment rate, which sits at 4.9 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Year-to-date, December 2015 to July 2016, Massachusetts has added 56,600 jobs, the state said. It also revised its June job estimates upward to 17,600 jobs gained, compared with its previously published estimate of 16,400.

In July, the largest job gains were in the fields of Professional, Scientific and Business Services; Leisure and Hospitality; and Financial Activities, according to the state.
