What's Coming Up For Friends of the Public Garden?

Social event, "Making History on the Common," and the Ancient Fishweir Project happening right now.

 

Friends of the Public Garden will be holding a summer social at Via Matta, 79 Park Plaza, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12.

According to their website, Via Matta is partnering with the Friends of the Public Garden in honor of the 25th anniversary of The Heritage On The Garden, which is located in Back Bay near the Public Garden.

Tickets are $65 and can be purchased here.

Also, coming up Monday, the Friends of the Public Garden are holding the annual "Making History on the Common" day along with numerous other city organizations. They include:

The Freedom Trail Foundation, Historic New England, the Ancient Fishweir Project, the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers, Codman Community Farms, the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, Commonwealth Vintage Dancers, New England Contra Dancers, the Skating Club of Boston and Whole Foods Market.

Speaking of the Ancient Fishweir Project, you may have noticed their display on Boston Common, not far from Charles Street. According to the Friends of the Public Garden website, native people used the fishweirs to catch alewife, smelt, and salmon 5,000 years ago in what is now Back Bay.
