Discolored Tap Water Possible In Belmont Today

OK to drink but could stain light-colored clothed being laundered.

Belmont residents may experience discolored tap water today, Thursday, Aug. 26, due to a section of water pipeline being reactivated in Arlington by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

The discolored water could last up to 48 hours, according to a release from Arlington town officials.

Although safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, the discolored water, which the result of a small amount of iron in the pipes, can stain light-colored clothes that are washed in the laundry. Residents should check their water clarity Thursday before washing any white or light-colored items, according to the town.
