Navy Band Postponed, Rescheduled for Aug. 31

Payson Park Music Festival's finale pushed back until next Tuesday.

While they are closely associated with the water, The Navy Band Northeast isn't quite prepared to play in it. 

Due to the past few days of steady rainfall, the final concert for this year's Payson Park Music Festival with the Navy Band today, Wednesday, Aug. 25, has been pushed back nearly a week to the day before school starts in town.

The Newport, RI-based military band will now perform on Tuesday, Aug. 31, beginning their performance at 6:15 p.m. in the Payson Park playground.

Redbones Barbecue in Somerville's Davis Square is sponsoring Wednesday's concert.

According to it's website, the Navy Band Northeast, established in 1974, is one of 13 official bands of the U.S. Navy and is based at the naval base in Newport, R.I. Navy Band Northeast provides a wide spectrum of music, ranging from traditional military marching band songs to jazz and contemporary. The "Rhode Island Sound" ensemble of the band will entertain at Wednesday's concert.
