Outage Blamed on Blown Fuse
Homes surrounding Town Field impacted by Wednesday night's break in power.

The electrical outage on Wednesday night, Aug. 4, in the Beech Street area was a result of a blown cut out fuse, according to the Belmont Municipal Light Department.
The interruption in electric service for homes surrounding the Town Field on Beech Street and Waverley Road began before shortly before 9:35 p.m. when the Belmont Police Department received the first call.
The outage lasted not quite an hour and was repaired by BMLD personnel, said Kristina Frizzell, Light Department spokeswoman.

Unlike the past service interruptions, this outage is not related to technical issue resulted with an overvoltage condition on BMLD's 13.8 kV system.
According to a press release, BMLD employees have been working throughout the past several months to improve this circuit by replacing the aging cable and transferring the power to another circuit to eliminate the chance of any additional high-voltage transients that have caused sporadic outages and voltage dips in the past year. Work on this project is 90 percent complete.

In the latest , which left approximately 200 BMLD households without power for 51 minutes on the 15L2 circuit was unrelated to the ongoing problem, but rather was caused by animal contact.
