The Navy Band Northeast is the concluding act for this year's Payson Park Music Festival this Wednesday, Aug. 25. The Newport, RI-based military band will begin their performance at 6:15 p.m. in the Payson Park playground. Redbones Barbecue in Somerville's Davis Square is sponsoring Wednesday's concert. According to it's website, the Navy Band Northeast, established in 1974, is one of 13 official bands of the U.S. Navy, and is based in the naval base in Newport, R.I. Navy Band Northeast provides a wide spectrum of music, ranging from traditional military marching band songs to jazz and contemporary. The "Rhode Island Sound" ensemble of the band will entertain at Wednesday's concert. The Payson Park Music Festival has grass-roots origins within the Belmont community. This annual event is intended for the enjoyment of Belmont residents and surrounding communities. Our goal is to present a series of free summer concerts spanning a wide musical spectrum.
