Take a Pass: Belmont Public Library's Museum Passes

Discount and free passes to the best museums are available to Belmont residents.

You've gone on vacation, been to the pool and have rented so many movies you are about to scream.

So what else can you do for the last month of summer?

How about a day trip to some of the best museums in Boston? And the best part is that you can get free or discounted passes to the museums by visiting the library.

Funded by the Friends of the Belmont Public Library, the Museum Pass Program is operated by the Library for Belmont residents.

In order to make museum passes available to as many Belmont residents as possible, the Library staff has established the following policy. It is extremely important that passes be returned promptly and the Library requests the patron's cooperation.

  • Museum pass borrowers must be Belmont residents.
  • Borrower's library record must be in good standing. If delinquent – being $5 or greater in fines or lost material – borrowers must clear their delinquency prior to picking up a pass.
  • A single pass may be borrowed for any day.
  • During school year vacations in September through June, only one pass may be borrowed per family.
  • Patrons must present their library card when picking up a pass.
  • Reservations may be made up to two months in advance dependent on availability. There are three ways to make a reservation: In person, via telephone and online.
  • Reusable passes – Monday through Friday – are due before 9 a.m. the next morning. Reusable Saturday/Sunday passes are due before 9 a.m. on Monday morning. Passes must be return in person at the Reference Desk the same day you use it or before 9 a.m. the following morning through the front door pass slot.
  • A $5 per day late fee will be charged.
  • Loss of a pass, failure to pick up a pass or failure to cancel a reservation will result in the loss of museum pass borrowing privileges for three months.

Before you reserve a pass online, call 617-993-2870 or stop by the reference desk to register and select a PIN.

  • In person: Stop by the reference desk.

The museums participating in the program include:

Aquarium, Boston (Sept. - June)

Audubon Society Reservations, various locations including Drumlin Farm and Habitat

Boston by Foot, Boston (May - October)

Children's Museum, Boston

Plimoth Plantation, Plymouth (April-November)

Massachusetts Parks Pass, various locations

Museum of Science, Boston
