Three Things To Do In (And Around) Belmont

Wallace and Gromit, cup cakes and a sale on knickknacks are just three things to do this weekend.

Wisdom from Ben Franklin: Wait for the sale

When isn't it a good time to stack up on knickknacks, craft material and those small, useful office or school "things" you need because, well, you NEED them.

So what better time could there be to purchase them then during a sale?

Cup Cake Celebration

Last weekend, the most obvious event to attend was the premier of the Belmont Summer Music Festival Orchestra at the Beech Street Center.

This week, it's all about the cup cake.

Owner and chief Jessa Sahakian of Yum Bunnies Cakery – simply the best bakery name in the US – is thanking all her customers and friends with a cup cake giveaway at her store on Belmont Street. There will a clown, face painting, contests and information. In addition there will be things kids can do.

Cracking good movies with Wallace and Gromit

Last week, one of the things to do in Belmont was actually in Cambridge – visiting the Longfellow house – and this week, one event is in neighboring Arlington.

Saturday at 8 p.m., it's a summer tradition in many parts of the country: movie night outdoors. In Arlington, it's at Robbins Farm Park at 61 Eastern Ave. The movie is free of charge.

But the best part of the event is the movies being shown:

Three short films starring Wallace and Gromit, about a dog and his dimwitted master who solve crimes and mysteries all the while animated.
