Commuter Rail Train Derails At South Station, Causes Delays
Officials said around 8 p.m. Tuesday two trains ran into one another near South Station.
BOSTON — MBTA Transit Police and Amtrak officials were called to South Station where an MBTA commuter rail derailed after hitting another train, according to officials. Although MBTA officials said there were no injuries, and called it a low speed derailment, there were serious delays as crews worked to right the train.
Officials said two trains ran into one another near South Station Tuesday night around 8 p.m., causing a Fairmount commuter line train to derail.
A shuttle bus replaced service for Fairmount Train 789 (11:00 pm outbound) between South Station and Readville shortly after, according to the MBTA.

The Middleborough/Lakeville, Kingston/Plymouth, and Greenbush Line trains were operating at reduced speeds near South Station.

Commuter Rail service is suspended along the Fairmount line today, following last night’s derailment. A bus shuttle is being provided, serving every station between Readville and South Stations to accommodate customers traveling in both directions.
